Fall 2022 IGC Career Festival The Fall 2022 IGC Career Festival was held in person on September 3rd from 10 AM to 5 PM. In collaboration with all four IGC universities, SUNY Korea CDC (Career Development Center) have put together the most inspiring and practical programs for the student's career advancement. The Fall 2022 IGC Career Festival helped offer the students real world experience from successful alumni professionals through IGC Alumni Career Talk, finding their strength and career with the MBTI test, English & Korean mock interviews with professional career coaches, and English resume 101 lecture and an individual resume clinic. The students also had the opportunity to meet with other university students and take tours of all four universities on IGC Campus. Also, after this event there was an evaluation from the students about this Fall 2022 IGC Career Festival, and the results showed that 100% of attended students rated the Fall 2022 IGC Career Festival to be “Very Helpful” for Career Preparation. In the evaluation, one student said, "I learned that finding 'my stories' during the four years of university is the most important thing I need to do. Also, I found that balancing the activities and studying is significant as both of them are required for reaching my dream. Further, I felt the MBTI consultation was also very meaningful as I not only learned the detailed description of MBTI and how MBTI actually links with my personality."

Fall 2022 New Student Welcome Week Finally, the world is slowly coming back to normal after the long two years of an online generation. This past week the new students were able to come to school to learn the important information for classes and what life would be like on campus. The students were able to experience this through the different workshops prepared for them including placement exams, orientations, a variety of workshops, and the main Convocation event. During these five days of the New Student Welcome Week they were able to make connections with their fellow students, staff, and faculty. Fall 2022 Convocation The Fall 2022 Convocation was held today at the IGC Auditorium. We were finally able to welcome our new SBU and FIT students in person. After the long pandemic, we greeted students, parents, and faculty with big smiles. Arthur H. Lee, president of SUNY Korea, Dr. Dawn Medley, Vice Provost for Enrollment Management at Stony Brook University NY, Mark Evan Blackman, Chair of Fashion Design Department at SUNY Korea all gave special remarks in today's convocation to encourage students A total of 211 students have joined us this semester: 114 students in SBU and 96 students in FIT. Starting from this fall, a new major will join SUNY Korea SBU . The Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) program, one of the foundational disciplines of engineering, will start with 26 students and will continue to grow with the other majors at our school. We welcome you Class of 2024 & 2026. See you on Monday!

The Newly Elected Incheon City Councilmen's Visit to SUNY Korea On July 15, 2022 the newly elected city councilman made a visit to the Incheon Global Campus Universities. There were a total of eleven people including the seven councilmen and four industry board directors. As part of the tour provided by IGC, there was a short visit made to one of SUNY Korea’s lecture rooms located in the Academic building A. The Dean of Strategic Planning and Relations provided a brief presentation about SUNY Korea.

SUNY Korea convened an academic symposium SUNY Korea convened an academic symposium from June 15 to 16. The academic symposium, which was held to celebrate the 10-year anniversary of SUNY Korea, consisted of 3 sessions. The attending speakers from various research areas shared their own insights about global education, sustainability, academics, etc.

Spring 2022 Career Talk to You #2 Spring 2022 Career Talk to You #2, an event hosted by SUNY Korea CDC, was successfully held on May 25. Ms. Sophie Park, the CEO of Sophie Company, gave a talk on her career journey and tips for starting a start-up company. Sophie Company is a K-beauty marketing agency that provides access to innovative beauty and fashion products to global customers and major global retailers like COSTCO, IHERB, and Anthropologie, etc., and has been continuously recruiting SUNY Korea students as interns. Through this opportunity, SUNY Korea students were able to gain insights into the company’s global marketing and sales strategy and learn about the crucial aspects for success in a career.

TMR-founders selected for Jung-Ju Young Start-up Competition TMR-founders is a start- up company established by SUNY Korea CS graduate student, Youngho Kim. The company was recently selected as one of the 12 start-up teams in the Jung-Ju Young Start-up Competition hosted by Asan-nanum group. Jung-Ju Young Start-up Competition started in 2012 to encourage and sponsor start-up companies within the nation. The average competition rate for this competition is about 100:1. [Questions for Youngho, CEO of TMR-founders] 1. Briefly introduce yourself. Hello, I am Youngho Kim, and I am currently building and running a company called tmr-founders. 2. Could you explain about your start-up company “TMR-founders”? (How it was started, etc.) Tmr-founders began with various visions of our team members that led to the same destination (self-actualization). We all dream of a world where we can make “work” happy. We define “work that anyone wants” as a start-up. Through a start-up, we expect a better world to live in. 3. We heard your company was recently selected for the final round of the Jung Ju-Young Start-up competition. Could you tell us about the competition and how your company was able to make it to the final round? Jung Ju-Young Start-up Competition is one of the biggest start-up competitions in Korea held by Asan-nanum campaign. The average competition rate is about 100:1. To be honest, we expected that we would not even pass the document screening in this competition. When we met several venture capitalists with the ppt document that we submitted for this competition, they all said this service is not attractive. We asked for tons of feedback and questions in order to not give up. At a time when our self-esteem fell to the very bottom, we passed the first document screening at the Jung Ju-Young Startup Competition. It was lucky to pass the document stage, and after that, we passed two more presentation reviews. With the passion and help of our teammates, we were selected as one of the final 12 start-up teams. 4. Do you have any messages for SUNY Korea students who wish to start their own business? Do a job or work that you can always smile about before you go to bed. Never start a business from the opinions and trends of the people around you. Believe in yourself and keep going. And please act first since there will never be perfect preparation.

Spring 2022 Career Design School- OMNIOUS Spring 2022 Career Design School was successfully held on May 11 at SUNY Korea. SUNY Korea Career Development Center invited two executives from OMNIOUS, a fast growing visual AI solutions developer for fashion retailers. The notable speakers gave a talk on the topic “Can Fashion & AI Collaborate?” and SUNY Korea students, both SBU and FIT had the great opportunity to learn about the grand topic “AI integrated in the fashion industry.”After the event, a lot of the students commented that the talk helped them become aware of the importance of data and data management in the fashion industry. *Related article: Click here

2022 IGC Career Workshop #2 On April 20th, at the IGC Small Theater, IGC students were given the opportunity to learn from and have a networking session with IGC Alumni working as professional CEOs. Four notable IGC alumni working in the fields of real estate service, customized website application development, social media, and IT solution startups shared their journeys of starting their own companies after graduation. SUNY Korea’s proud graduates Soomin Seo (CEO of Livable) and Dongyeob Lee (CEO of Zero Class Lab) participated in this event. 100 % of the attendees responded that the event “exceeded their expectations” in the evaluation survey. One of the lessons students mentioned learning through the workshop included “the government funding process and starting prototypes with tools instead of starting the program from scratch”. Opening Ceremony of Incheon Citizen Life College An Opening ceremony was held at the Global Lounge of George Mason University on April 18th to celebrate the launch of a Global Campus Program for the newly established Incheon Citizen Life College (인천시민대학). Over 50 people including faculty, staff from IGC, and new students participated in this event. As the first “citizen’s university” in the country, composed of eight different universities, Incheon Citizen Life College is operated by the Incheon Institute for Talent and Lifelong Education. All the lectures provided by the Incheon Citizen Life College are free and the registration rate of the courses showed a high record of 180% upon the beginning of its courses. The citizens will receive honorary degrees from the universities as part of the program. SUNY Korea, along with the other universities at the Incheon Global Campus (IGC), will partake in supporting the education of Incheon citizens by offering a wide variety of academic courses, thereby contributing to the local community.
