On September 14, The Style Shop Korea celebrated its opening on the first floor of SUNY Korea Academic Building A. The shop was developed under the leadership of Professor Hyeseon Kim and the FIT School Club, MSC (Merchandising Society Club). What makes this Style Shop especially meaningful is that all of the products were created by FIT students.

During the opening event, house music filled the space, creating a fashionable and energetic atmosphere in the style shop area. The shop features a clean, white-toned interior arranged with SUNY Korea merchandise. Students who visited could find clothing in a wide range of colors, from hot pink to gray and navy pieces that they can easily wear in their daily life. To celebrate the opening, the shop also held a special promotion event, “Buy One, Get One Gift”.

The Style Shop Korea offers more than just merchandise designed by students. Visitors are assisted by students throughout the entire shopping experience, from knowing about the products and receiving personalized recommendations to checking out and having their purchases packaged. Their friendly services helped to make the shop feel professional and welcoming for customers.

Seojung Park, a Fashion Business Management student at FIT Korea and vice president of MSC, explained that preparing this Style Shop took two months. According to Seojung, opening an actual retail space involved many challenges. However, watching customers purchase products she designed and enjoying the space she helped create made the experience especially memorable for her.

“It feels rewarding to me to see customers buy the products we designed and enjoy the style shop,” Seojung said. “Through this project, I experienced real field experience that will help my future fashion career, and I learned how to run an actual fashion store.”

The Style Shop Korea illustrates how SUNY Korea students can apply what they learn in lectures to a real retail environment. By participating in product development, customer service, sales and even packaging, students gained real field experiences in several areas of fashion business. The style shop also gives the SUNY Korea community an opportunity to support student’s creativity while purchasing distinctive school merchandise.
