SUNY Korea brought together alumni, university leadership, faculty, and staff for its inaugural Alumni Night on September 18, 2026. Held under the theme of “Connect, Engage, Grow,” the gathering offered an opportunity to renew friendships, build new connections, and help shape the future of the university’s alumni community.
Over dinner and conversation, graduates reconnected with classmates and faculty and met fellow alumni from different programs and graduating classes. The evening celebrated the connections formed at SUNY Korea and the opportunities to carry those relationships beyond graduation.
The evening also offered an opportunity to reflect on SUNY Korea’s beginnings. The university honored Honorary President Myung Oh, Founding President and President Emeritus ChoonHo Kim, and Former President Wonki Min with gifts of appreciation for their contributions to its development. During dinner, Dr. Oh shared stories about the university’s establishment, connecting alumni with the history of the institution where their own journeys began.
Looking ahead, the introduction of the Alumni Association Founding Committee marked an important step toward a more connected alumni network. Committee Chair Jungkyu Kim, a 2022 Business Management graduate, introduced the committee and outlined its role in preparing the association’s charter and the process for electing its inaugural leadership. Alumni were encouraged to contribute their ideas and take an active role in building the association.
The importance of these connections extended to the wider Stony Brook community. Dr. Hyunsoon Lee, President of the Stony Brook University Korea Alumni Association, offered encouragement for the developing alumni community and the strengthening of ties among Stony Brook graduates in Korea.
With the sharing of memories, conversations, and activities throughout the evening, the first Alumni Night laid the groundwork for a continuing tradition. As preparations for the Alumni Association move forward, alumni will have an opportunity to shape a community that supports one another and welcomes future generations of SUNY Korea graduates.
