Fashion Business Management at FIT is the largest and oldest degree program of its kind in the United States. It's a challenging and rewarding career that combines creative skills and analytical thinking. Students will learn global fashion merchandising strategies, fashion marketing, retail management, advertising and promotion, product development, and creative fashion presentations. Instructed by experienced industry professionals, and principles of buying and planning, students will acquire real-world skills from beyond the classroom by visiting retail stores and their corporate offices showrooms, specialty shops, and buying offices throughout the city.

Fashion Business Management AAS

This industry-driven program focuses on the skills and knowledge you need to succeed in the fashion business: research, technology, analytics, teamwork, ethics, critical thinking, and more. A two-semester “First-Year Experience” exposes you to all segments of the industry, from concept to consumer, enabling you to plan your academic path to suit your career goals. You’ll learn presentation and merchandising skills, and explore issues important to consumers, such as sustainability and corporate social responsibility. While building the foundation you need to apply to the bachelor’s degree program, you’ll create a digital portfolio you can show when applying for internships or jobs.

FIT provides the best setting for any student who is fascinated with fashion Business Management. Instructed by experienced industry professionals, you will have the opportunity to learn real-world skills beyond the classroom by visiting showrooms, specialty shops, and buying offices. Internships and capstone classes provide additional firsthand experience and networking opportunities.

Working individually and in teams, you will study fashion marketing, product development, buying and planning, sourcing, styling, fashion management and forecasting, artificial intelligence, social media and analytics development. You'll master the skills needed in global retail operations and management, and learn how to combine your sense of style with business acumen.

In this program, you will:

  • collaborate with fellow students on extracurricular projects in student clubs, including the Merchandising Society and IVY magazine.
  • learn about global merchandising strategies in classes in Korea and see them come to life in study abroad programs in Australia, London, Hong Kong, Paris, Rome, and Florence.
